Many parents actually start saving money when their child is young so that they can be surprised on their 18th birthday when they hand them over a personal check! This is also an excellent way for your son or your daughter to step out into the new world, live on his or her own, and experience real life events. Sometimes the money that is saved is used for a college education, but a better thing to do would be to leave it up to your son or daughter what he or she wants to do with it!
